Why come to Gstaad?

Mirjam Li-Wolf - For the scenery, the snow and the authenticity. The atmosphere is soothing. There are almost as many cows as people in the region, and the mix of luxury establishments with strong rural traditions is unique. What's more, there are plenty of high-quality facilities and a wide range of activities, both sporting and cultural.

Don't you suffer from this image of a resort for the ultra-rich?

MR L.-W. - It's a cliché, even if Gstaad is known the world over as a prestigious destination. The concentration of five 5-star hotels in such a small area is certainly not uncommon, but it's very simplistic to deduce that it's just a resort for billionaires! We also have more modest hotels, bed and breakfasts, self-catering cottages, affordable restaurants, children's play areas and a campsite!

Winter is still the high season?

MR L.-W. - Yes, but almost equally with summer. We're now trying to boost spring and autumn. What's more, we're lucky enough to be geographically well situated and to have a dense and practical rail network: Gstaad makes it easy to travel to the surrounding area. Combinations with Berne or Montreux are also possible.

What are your plans for the future?

MR L.-W. - We try not to rest on our laurels. We're developing new proposals to make our offer more and more varied. For example, we are hosting the Snow Bike Festival, a cycling race on snow. On another front, we have set up Elevation 1049, a contemporary art exhibition. What's special about it is that it doesn't take place within the walls of a gallery, but in the streets, hotels and even in the mountains. It's an opportunity to discover places and sites in a different way that might not otherwise be visited.
