Married to Eugène Manet, the brother of the famous Édouard, her work ranged from rural and seascapes to intimate moments and scenes of everyday life. She painted elegant women, portraits and scenes inspired by her sisters and their children; everything she experienced in the second half of the 19th century. Interested in the effects of luminosity and colour, she was particularly sensitive to the reflections of light. And yet, despite her rich artistic output, her death certificate in 1895 stated that she had "no profession"!
