Volotea is clearly counting on connections between France and Algeria. And what better place than the capital to affirm this ambition, especially from a leading airport for the business, leisure and affinity markets? The inauguration of a flight from Marseille to Algiers is the logical next step in the low-cost carrier's expansion in France and the Mediterranean basin.

The new flight Marseille-Alger will make its debut on 29 March. And the density of the schedule clearly illustrates the potential identified by Volotea on this route. Up to 12 flights a week will be offered this summer, with two flights a day except on Wednesdays and Saturdays (1 flight a day). In winter, Volotea will operate 14 flights a week, with up to 2 flights a day.

This density will be made possible by the positioning of a fourth Volotea aircraft at the Marseille base. The airline will also be stepping up its summer services to Constantine and Tlemcen, which will be increased to 5 and 3 flights a week respectively. With the new Marseille-Alger flight, the carrier will link Marseille airport to 23 destinations.

Volotea plans to offer around 176,000 seats on the new Marseille-Alger route, bringing total capacity between the two countries to 447,000 seats - Volotea already links the Cité Phocéenne to four other Algerian airports: Béjaïa, Constantine, Oran and Tlemcen.

"We are delighted to announce the opening of this new direct service between Marseille and Algiers. "says Gilles Gosselin. Director of France for Volotea, he adds: " With this fourth aircraft based in Marseille, we are strengthening our frequencies to Algeria and consolidating our role as a key operator in this strategic market, today one of our most dynamic markets and our 5ᵉ most important country. This route will offer more frequencies, flexibility and comfort at affordable prices to travellers, whether they are travelling for business or family reasons, and confirms our commitment to offering enhanced connectivity between the French regions and Algeria".

Algeria: a strategic destination

L'Algeria has been explicitly identified by Volotea as "a strategic, fast-growing destination". By 2025, the Algerian market will have become the fifth most important for the airline, which operates 28 weekly frequencies there all year round. Volotea will also be strengthening its services between France and Algeria from two other airports: the airline will soon be operating 3 flights a week on the Bordeaux - Oran and even six weekly flights between Lyon and Sétif.
