Soprano Ailyn Perez made her debut at New York's Metropolitan Opera in 2015, in the role of Carmen. Since then, she has sung the Countess Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, and Juliette by Gounod this spring.

Seeing other people doing sport or going for a walk, being out in nature for a while, motivates me.

I live very close to Union Square. Which means that, when I have time, I can pop into the Meatpacking District to enjoy the High Line and, above all, the city. admire works of American art of the new Whitney Museum. I love this building designed by Renzo Piano, with its terraces and views over the city. As well as the Edward Hopper collection, you can discover a large number of contemporary artists. Afterwards, having a drink in the bar of the Standard Hotel, just a stone's throw away, is always a pleasure, especially for the view.
When I'm preparing for a new role, I like to wander around the Metropolitan Museum looking for a connection between music and the visual arts. I also like to find beautiful dresses for the events I have to attend. Some of my favourite boutiques are Sachin & Babi and Intermix, a fashion chain. For beautiful jewellery to wear on stage, I often opt for Tamsen Z by Anne Ziff, by appointment only.
I also give a lot of my time to charities such as Time in Kids, which helps disadvantaged children to develop their creativity, and I teach as a volunteer at the Kaufman Center for Music, whose concerts I recommend.
As I live not far from the Flatiron, I also like to explore this area. My latest discovery is the Freehand, a hotel whose cocktail bar, Simon & The Whale, is fabulous. Not only can you drink the Three Sails - I'll be damned, but you can also see works of art created by students. It's wonderful.
