If you haven't planned on arriving in Paris or travelling to the Ile-de-France region, it's best not to think about it now. Friday 26 July with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Air traffic
During the opening ceremony, air traffic is suspended within a 150km radius of Paris. This affects Roissy CDG, Orly and Beauvais airports. This restriction is in place from 6.30pm to midnight. On the Aéroports de Paris website, no flights land or take off from Orly or Roissy after 5pm.
Speaking on Franceinfo, General Laurent Rataud, from the French Air Defence Command, explained the reasons for the 150km exclusion zone. " 150 kilometres is roughly the distance that a commercial airliner covers in ten minutes. Ten minutes is the time it takes us, the air force, to be able to intervene, to come into contact with an aircraft that enters this prohibited zone and to be able to deploy all the necessary actions." .
Only military aircraft monitoring Paris will continue to use the airspace during the closure to civilian traffic.
RATP-SNCF in Paris
The RATP and SNCF networks in the Ile-de-France region (RER) are also subject to restrictions. No less thansome sixty stations are closed throughout the day or from the afternoon onwards. These are mainly stations located on the banks of the Seine where the ceremony takes place.
Road traffic
The official website anticiperlesjeux.gouv.fr recommends do not take your vehicle from 10.00 today. The A4 motorway access ramp to the heart of Paris at Charenton-le-Pont is closed to vehicles. Exits on the RD103 and RD154A departmental roads from the provinces to Paris are also closed from Charenton.
Around the Trocadero, the authorities are banning motorised traffic from 1pm. The ban will last until the end of the ceremony (red and grey perimeters). The red perimeter remains accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridges crossing the Seine (Invalides, Sully, Notre-Dame, Sendar-Senghor pedestrian footbridge) and the bridges below Iéna are also closed to traffic. motorised traffic at 1 p.m. and pedestrianised from 6 p.m.. The bridges above Austerlitz are closed to motorised traffic at 1pm and to pedestrians from 5.30pm. Bison Futé has classified the 26th as a black day in the Paris region.
