Neither Paris nor Frankfurt in continental Europe. Visit Australian airline Qantas finally chose Rome as its sole destination in the European Union. A city that will be added to its existing service from London Heathrow. Rome was chosen because of the strong demand from the Australian diaspora for flights to and from Australia. And because Rome shaves an hour off the flight time compared to other European airports.
The company will fly three times weekly from Rome to Sydney with a stopover in Perth, Western Australia. This will be the first time that continental Europe will be served by non-stop flights to Australia. Qantas to use long-range Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
According to Qantas, this will be the fastest flight between Rome and Perth, making it possible to reduce journey time by 3 hours compared to existing options. The route will operate alongside the two daily flights operated by Qantas to London.
The new flight will only operate during the summer season. That is, until 6 October. In Rome, passengers will have access to connections to 16 destinations in Europe operated by ITA. These include Nice and Paris, as well as Barcelona, Frankfurt, Munich and Madrid. As well as around fifteen Italian cities.
