Qatar Airways, the first global airline to return to Syria

On 7 January, Qatar Airways will resume its services to Damascus, after having interrupted the route for more than a decade. It is the first global airline to return to the Syrian capital.

13 years suspension. That's how long it took Qatar Airways to resume services to Damascusthe capital of Syria. The political events of late 2024 and the arrival of a new government precipitated the return of the Qatari company.

But these are modest beginnings. The airline will be offering three weekly Airbus A330 frequencies during the first week.. But its offer will rise to five weekly frequencies from 13 January (Wednesday to Sunday). Flights connect with Qatar Airways' intercontinental destinations, including Paris.

It's a fact, 7 January corresponds to the reopening of the airport of the Syrian capital to international traffic. In parallel with the arrival of Qatar Airways, the national carrier Syrian Air is resuming its services to Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Cairo, while Ur Airlines is relaunching its service to Baghdad. The Syrian civil aviation authorities have also announced that the imminent reopening of Aleppo airportthe country's second largest city.
