This winter, British Airways will be launching a brand new route between London Heathrow and Santiago airport. It will be the longest flight ever operated by British Airways, taking 14 hours and 40 minutes to cover the 11,645 km between Santiago and London Heathrow airports.
On 3 January 2017, Chile will join Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Costa Rica in British Airways' South American catalogue, as Alex Cruz, the airline's Chief Executive Officer, points out: "Over the last few years we have strengthened our presence in Central and South America, starting with the opening of flights to Costa Rica and Peru. The launch of the Santiago route is another important commercial link between Europe and this emerging region".
These new flights will be operated four times a week. The new Boeing 787-9 - which will feature a new First cabin - will leave Heathrow at 10pm each Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. It will arrive in Santiago at 9.40am local time the following day. On the return journey, passengers will leave Chile at 6.45pm and land in London at 12.05pm the following day.
