Launched in November 2020, current Star Alliance biometrics users include LufthansaAustrian Airlines and Swiss. Singapore Airlines and United Airlines have developed their own technology.
Miles & More passengers benefit from biometrics
Star Alliance technology is currently only available to members of the Miles & More frequent flyer programme.. They must register for the Star Alliance biometrics service at least 24 hours before their flight. All they need is a valid passport and the latest version of the Lufthansa application or the Miles & More application. As soon as they have enrolled, they can carry out the security checks and pass through the boarding gate filters without any contact.
Faced with the expected increase in air traffic over the next few years, Star Alliance to introduce additional biometric measures. The main concern is to ensure that airport procedures run smoothly and avoid bottlenecks like last summer.
For Christian Draeger, this is a desirable objective rather than a binding one. In the long term, this would make it possible tooffer the entire journey using contactless technology, making the passenger experience safer and, above all, more efficient.
