The disruption caused by social movements against pension reform are continuing in the transport sector. A strike by air traffic controllers on Monday 20 March has led the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) to ask airlines to reduce their flight schedules at both Paris-Orly and Marseille-Provence. As a result, 30% flights due to be cancelled at Paris-Orly - more than during the last strikes - as well as 20% flights to Marseille-Provence between the evening of Sunday 19 March and 6am on Tuesday.
But the strike is set to continue until at least Thursday, announced the DGAC on 20 March, which is urging passengers to postpone their journeys and check with their airline to find out the status of their flight.
Thursday 23 March is expected to be another day of general strike action, during which travel is likely to be significantly disrupted, particularly on the SNCF, whose traffic over the next few days will continue to be affected by a rolling strike, albeit to a lesser extent than on previous days of mass action.
