While industrial action against pension reform has been causing disruption in French skies since the start of the week, the movement is set to continue. at least until 27 March. This applies not only to Paris-Orly and Marseille-Provence, the two airports which have seen flights cancelled since 20 March, but also to Bordeaux and Lyon.
As a result of the air traffic control strike, the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has asked airlines to reduce their flight schedules. For example, 30% flights due to be cancelled at Paris-Orly on Friday 24 March and 15% of flights the following day, Saturday 25. As for Marseille-Provence, Bordeaux and Lyon airports, the percentage of cancelled flights is expected to be 20% on both Friday and Saturday. The DGAC is therefore urging passengers to postpone their journeys and check with their airline to find out the status of their flight.
With a tenth day of general strike action scheduled for Tuesday 28 March, the DGAC has already issued a pessimistic forecast for travellers due to take to the skies early next week. Traffic at Orly and Marseille airports will be disrupted on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 March, and Lyon airport will also be affected, at least for this Sunday.
