TAP Air Portugal continues to strengthen its presence in Brazil, one of its strategic markets, with the announcement of a new international route between Lisbon and São Luís, capital of the state of Maranhão, as well as an increase in frequencies to Porto Alegre and Florianópolis from the European summer.
From 26 October 2026, TAP Air Portugal will launch two weekly flights between Lisbon and São Luís, offering a direct connection between Europe and north-east Brazil via its Lisbon hub.
The flights will be operated by Airbus A321LR, renowned for its comfort and efficiency on long-haul flights, with 16 seats in Business class and 155 in Economy class, on the Lisbon - São Luís - Fortaleza - Lisbon route, twice a week.
For MICE, the possibility of travelling directly from Europe to this city of just under a million inhabitants means you can organise events in one of Brazil's most attractive urban destinations. São Luís has a rich history, partly linked to France, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Flight times :
- Lisbon - São Luís: Mondays and Thursdays, departure at 7.05pm, arrival at 12.10am the following day
- São Luís - Lisbon (via Fortaleza): Tuesdays and Fridays, departure at 01:40, stopover in Fortaleza at 03:00, departure at 04:30, arrival in Lisbon at 14:50.
With this new route, São Luís becomes the 15ᵉ Brazilian destination served by TAP, confirming its status as the most present European airline in Brazil.
In fact, TAP Air Portugal is continuing to strengthen its position on this strategic route. Brazil is the airline's largest long-haul market.
The Portuguese carrier will be increasing its frequencies to the south of Brazil from this summer. This will mean the introduction of a fourth weekly flight to Porto Alegre (new frequency on Mondays, from 6 July) and to Florianópolis (new frequency on Sundays, from 5 July).
