The American authorities are preparing to authorise the use of electronic devices on board aircraft during take-off and landing. Telephone communications, however, remain prohibited.

Business travellers in the United States will soon be able to use their digital tablets on board aircraft, including during take-off and landing. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) made the decision on 31 October, putting an end to years of prohibition. Nevertheless, passengers will not be allowed to make phone calls or send text messages on board, while laptops should remain confined, for fear that their size could make them dangerous projectiles in the event of disruption. This decision, made official on 31 October, should come into force before the end of the year. It remains to be seen whether the new regulations will be extended to Europe and other business travel regions.
