The company Volotea It has thoroughly reviewed its flight schedule for the 2026-2027 winter season, which has just begun. Faced with rising kerosene prices and mounting debt, the regional carrier has modified its flight schedule across Europe.
Including several dozen connections departing from or bound for France, with lines being cancelled, frequencies reduced and seasonal services postponed until the end-of-year holidays. Bordeaux, Nantes, Lille, Brest, Marseille, Lyon, Montpellier, Strasbourg and Toulouse are among the affected platforms.
According to the online site AeroRoutes, which compared the schedules filed on June 14 and October 18, 2026, Volotea’s winter schedule drops from 25,395 to 17,048 flights, a decrease of nearly 33%. Meanwhile, the number of seats drops almost in the same proportion at -33.2%. This corresponds to 2.92 million seats over the winter period instead of 4.36 million previously.
For France, Cirium data show a decrease of around 10 to 11 % in capacity between November 2026 and February 2027 compared to the same period a year earlier. These decreases come at a time when the company is considering reducing its fleet of aircraft. According to the specialized press, about a dozen aircraft are expected to leave the company, bringing the total fleet to about thirty aircraft in the near future.
Operational logic consists of concentrating available resources on routes offering the best prospects for filling and profitability. The announcement of the removal or reduction of frequencies on several dozen routes in Europe represents the latest adjustments for 2026.
For regional airports, the challenge goes beyond just a decline in the number of flights. The reductions can affect the attractiveness of destinations, short stays, trips abroad from the regions, and the marketing of packages built around direct connections.
Bordeaux, Nantes and Lille among the most affected in the hexagon
À Bordeaux, Volotea is removing several international destinations for the winter: Bari, Bastia, Charleroi, Figari, Fuerteventura, Naples, Prague, Rome-Fiumicino and Tenerife-South are no longer on the winter schedule. The connection to Lanzarote is also removed. The company’s reduction in its offer on the Bordeaux platform is estimated at around 35 % by the fourth quarter of 2026.
Other routes are maintained, but with interruptions or reduced frequencies. Bordeaux-Strasbourg goes from 151 to 91 flights over the season, while Bordeaux-Oran drops from 63 to 44 flights. The connection to Marrakech does not resume until December 19, against the original November 3 date, then changes from two to one weekly flight starting January 7, 2027. Bordeaux-Agadir is also postponed to December 19. The services from Florence, Lille, Marseille, Nice, Seville and Valence are limited to certain periods, mainly around the holidays.
À Nantes, The cuts concern in particular Bergame, Brussels-Charleroi, Calvi, Figari, Perpignan, Pisa, Toulouse and Venice. Several international routes are also seeing their schedules reduced, such as the Nantes-Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Marrakech, Rome and Tenerife-South connections. The Nantes-Strasbourg connection is suspended from November 3 to 26, then from January 7 to February 18; it is not due to resume until twice a week from February 19 to March 26, against seven weekly frequencies initially scheduled for this period. Nantes-Porto is suspended from January 5 to February 11.
À Lille, The flights to Gran Canaria, Madrid, Seville and Valencia are withdrawn from the winter schedule. The flights from Agadir and Marrakech will only resume on December 19, instead of the planned beginning of November. Lille-Nice and Lille-Perpignan are limited to the period from December 17 or 18 to January 6.
Brest and Rodez: a greatly reduced winter activity
In Brest, the Volotea base will be put into hibernation during the winter. The connections to Tenerife-Sud and Lanzarote disappear from the schedule, and the service from Brest to Barcelona is also discontinued. The reductions also affect the seasonal connections with other French or European cities. The decline in the company’s activity in Brest is estimated at approximately 30 % by the fourth quarter of 2026.
In Rodez, the reduction is more drastic: the seasonal flights to Lille, Ajaccio and Porto were suspended at the beginning of October. However, the regular connection to Paris-Orly remains in place, as it is operated as part of a public service delegation.
Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier and Toulouse: reduced frequencies and interruptions
À Lyon, Volotea is removing the connections to Ajaccio, Athens, Gran Canaria, Nantes and Porto from its winter schedule. Lyon-Madrid is suspended from November 3 to December 17, and from January 7 to February 11. Lyon-Marrakech is suspended until December 16, while Lyon-Venice is suspended from November 2 to December 18. The resumption of Lyon-Fuerteventura has been postponed to February 14, and that of Lyon-Tenerife-South to December 20. Lyon-Setif has been reduced from 97 to 86 flights, and Lyon-Bastia is limited to one weekly flight during the holiday period, instead of two.
À Marseille, From January 5 to February 18, the connections to Barcelona and Limoges will be suspended for the winter. The frequencies for several connections to Algeria have also been reduced: Marseille-Alger will be reduced from 308 to 294 flights, Marseille-Constantine from 75 to 66, Marseille-Oran from 154 to 139, and Marseille-Tlemcen from 20 to 17. Marseille-Bejaia will be suspended from January 5 to February 18. Marseille-Strasbourg will be reduced from 117 to 71 flights. Finally, the planned launch of Marseille-Grande Canarie has been abandoned.
À Montpellier, The program is particularly seasonal. Montpellier-Brest, Montpellier-Caen, Montpellier-Lille and Montpellier-Rennes are only maintained for limited windows around Christmas and New Year. Montpellier-Nantes increases from 299 to 280 flights. The resumption of Montpellier-Strasbourg is postponed to November 27, that of Montpellier-Lanzarote to December 19. Montpellier-Tenerife-Sud is suspended from January 10 to January 31. In return, Montpellier-Madrid is scheduled to be launched on November 6 and Montpellier-Bordeaux on February 4, following a postponement of the initial launch date.
À Toulouse, Volotea is withdrawing its connections to Gran Canaria and Lanzarote for several periods of the winter. Toulouse-Caen and Toulouse-Rennes are suspended until mid-December. Toulouse-Luxembourg and Toulouse-Venice are operated only for limited periods. On the other hand, Volotea offers more flights from Toulouse to Pisa and Strasbourg.
Strasbourg, Nice and Paris-Orly also affected
À Strasbourg, Flights to Agadir and Porto are being removed from the winter schedule, while Strasbourg-Marrakech will not resume until December 19. Strasbourg-Bastia is limited to the period from December 17 to January 3, and Strasbourg-Rodez will have six flights instead of three during the holidays.
À Nice, From November 3 to December 16, Nice-Caen will be suspended, from November 2 to December 16, Nice-Nantes, and from January 7 to February 18, Nice-Luxembourg will be suspended. From January 7 to February 26, Nice-Strasbourg will be suspended at two weekly frequencies. Nice-Brest will only be suspended from December 18 to January 6.
À Paris-Orly, The lines to Genoa and Verona offer reduced frequency, while Turin is removed from the program.
Looking to the future, Volotea’s ability to stabilize its schedule will depend primarily on the evolution of costs, winter demand, and its financial restructuring. As for oil prices, their decline seems to be a pious hope.
