Weegee: crime and isolation

A famous photojournalist of the 1930s and 40s, Weegee sketched New York in black and white, focusing on its nightlife and its excesses.

Armed with his connections with the police, Weegee would arrive at the scene of a crime and immortalise it with his flashbulbs. It was a speciality that led him to befriend notorious criminals like Lucky Luciano. The photos were sometimes shocking, but they also illustrated the loneliness of the inhabitants of this megalopolis.
