A record year for Lux-Airport in 2011

Luxembourg's Lux Airport, which caters mainly for business customers, recently announced unprecedented figures for 2011.

According to figures released on 15 June by Lux-Airport management, a total of almost 1.8 million passengers - 1,795,255 to be exact - used the Luxembourg hub in 2011. This "record figure underlines the airport's dynamism despite a difficult year", says the airport management in a press release, which also reports a sharp increase in traffic (+9.9%) compared with 2010. Luxair, KLM and above all Swiss, Findel's three main carriers, saw their traffic increase by 5%, 13% and 15% respectively. The good momentum at Luxembourg airport should not slow down in 2012, with the hub posting a growth rate of 10% for the 1er quarter, and will soon see the first low-cost airline in its range: EasyJet. "It is certainly no coincidence that the number of passengers in 2011 was the highest ever recorded at Luxembourg Airport", says Tom Weisgerber, Chairman of the lux-Airport Board of Directors. He adds: "It's no coincidence either that new airlines are regularly choosing to operate from Findel. This is the culmination of our proactive development policy. Last year's spectacular increase in passenger numbers is just reward for that.
