The decision was made official on 17 July by the Autorité de régulation des communications électroniques et des postes (ARCEP). Following a public consultation held between 25 March and 11 April, and after validation by the government, ARCEP has decided to authorise 3G and 4G services in French airspace. The official press release states: "It is now authorised to use 2G and 4G systems in the 1800 MHz band" and "3G systems in the 2100 MHz band" in French airspace at an altitude of more than 3,000 metres above ground level. According to Le Figaro, which relayed the information on its website, Bouygues Telecom would be the only operator affected by these characteristics as far as 4G is concerned. ARCEP is now leaving it up to the airlines to decide whether or not to offer this option to their passengers, and at the prices they choose.
