Under certain conditions (a whopping 2 million times our atmospheric pressure), metallic sodium loses its opacity. So we look to metallic glasses, alloys of metals and ceramics such as LiquidMetal. It has extreme elasticity and its low melting point means it can be moulded like a plastic rather than melted like an ingot.
Transparent metal coming soon?
Having rigidity, solidity and transparency is a dream for researchers. We're getting there.
