After the great vintage of 2007, are the French still popular in Russia in 2010? Élisabeth Ponsolle des Portes -
Yes, of course, French luxury goods are still very popular in Russia. And while economic circumstances have an influence on the average price of purchases, we can see a trend in consumption, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated. And the Russians are increasingly connoisseurs.
What role does Russia, and Moscow in particular, play in the French luxury goods sector?
É. P. des P. - The companies in the Comité Colbert have historically had close ties with Russia. French brands have always been highly appreciated by local customers and, conversely, Russia has been a source of inspiration and even innovation for our companies, particularly through special orders. In this relationship, Moscow is a flagship city where most of our brands are still represented today.
What French know-how is most sought after by Muscovites?
É. P. des P. - Muscovites are looking for something very different, and all our sectors are very popular. And we can see, for example, that interior design is increasingly in demand. But don't be fooled into thinking that interest in French luxury is concentrated solely in Moscow and St Petersburg. More and more boutiques are opening in medium-sized towns, and some of our companies have even had to travel as far as... Vladivostok!
