Amazon shows off its tablets to compete with the iPad

On Wednesday, Amazon unveiled its new multimedia tablet, the Kindle Fire, designed to compete with the iPad in the mass market.

Has Apple finally found a product to rival its famous iPad? The launch of the Kindle Fire, unveiled on 28 September in New York, should offer a tempting alternative to both business and consumer customers. Amazon's new tablet draws on the brand's resources, offering quick and easy access to its multimedia catalogue. Internet browsing via the 7-inch touchscreen is limited to the wifi network, however, with no access to 3G. The fact remains that the versatility of the Kindle Fire - the processor means you can use several of the tablet's functions simultaneously - and its price (around €145) mean that many people see it as the only real competitor capable of taking on the iPad. The answer will be given on 15 November, when the Kindle Fire goes on sale.
