Amadeus is publishing a global report on October 13, " The always-connected traveller "The study, conducted by Norm Rose of Travel Tech Consulting Inc, assesses the impact of new technologies on frequent flyer behaviour. The study, carried out by Norm Rose of Travel Tech Consulting Inc, assesses the impact of new technologies on the behaviour of frequent travellers and predicts that the market for additional purchases made on mobile phones is set to expand significantly. Amadeus notes that 16 % of respondents book their travel via their smartphone. The rate rises to 18 % for the 18-35 age group, and even reaches 33 % among frequent travellers. In addition, 3.4 % of frequent travellers - 7.4% for the Asia region - use their mobile phones to check in for their flight. As far as airlines are concerned, Europe and Latin America seem to be lagging behind their North American and Asian rivals, which generally offer all 12 mobile services classified as "basic functionalities". The report published by Amadeus also points to the use of mobile technology in the sale of additional services and other ancillary costs: while the use of the telephone remains limited(1.4 %), the companies agree that this mobile offering is one of the avenues to be explored over the next twelve months. The last prospect mentioned by the Amadeus report is the adoption of mobile payment to facilitate transactions. The launch of Google Wallet - the electronic wallet developed by the Internet giant - could well provide a boost in the coming months.
