The airline industry has therefore emerged from the 3th Q3 2011 Spend Sights Report Travel" published by American Express Business Insights and reported by USA Today. American business travellers increased their spending on tickets in First (+9.1%) or Business Class (+5.4%) compared to the same period in 2010, while Economy Class recorded a limited increase (+1.2%). However, the choice of comfort in the air was accompanied by an opposite trend in the hotel sector, with economy hotels recording the strongest growth: "While luxury was favoured in the skies, spending by customers and companies remained cautious on the ground", sums up the report, which notes a double-digit increase in the economy segment (+10.5%). Upscale hotels seem to have suffered from this trend, with a small increase in spending (+2.2%). The phenomenon is even more marked in the large corporate segment, where spending on budget hotels has jumped spectacularly (+41.6%).
