Maslak, the other business district

If you continue north of Levent, after strolling along Büyükdere Caddesi, you will see the landscape flatten out and the number of anonymous slip roads multiply.

And then suddenly, after two kilometres of dreary, slightly undulating plain, the skyscrapers are strangely back in full bloom. Welcome to Maslak, Istanbul's other major contemporary business district. A district where, unlike Levent, the streets ring hollow after the offices close. Maslak is therefore not as lively as its neighbour, but the cranes circling en masse suggest that this is not stopping developers from continuing to develop it. The arrival of the metro in Maslak in 2009 has given some substance to their hopes. And because there are still a few empty spaces at the back of the district, it's a safe bet that the diggers have not finished making their melodious song heard...

A place

The Sheraton Maslak Istanbul is the main business hotel in the district. Indeed, it is the only one... It's hard to compete in terms of size with this establishment, where rooms are stacked 25 high and there are around twenty meeting rooms. But the Sheraton Maslak cannot be reduced to this 'convention centre' image for business groups. The proof is on the top two floors, with Qubbe, a bar/nightclub full of bling-bling decor and breathtaking views. The same floor is also home to one of the city's most spectacular event venues.
