Digital tablets: Google's turn

Plans for a Google-branded digital tablet are back in the spotlight, with the brand's Executive Chairman talking about a release date in 2012.

The release of the Internet giant's own tablet has moved from the rumour stage to the news stage, after Eric Schmidt, a member of the company's Board of Directors, spoke clearly about the project in the near future. In an interview with Corriere della Serra, Eric Schmidt explained: "In the next six months, we plan to launch a tablet of the highest quality". No precise information has yet been released about the functionality of the tablet, but Google's acquisition of Motorola's mobile business could well give the project a boost.
