GTMC report: second quarter up for British business travellers

The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) recently published its dedicated report on the UK business travel market, which shows an overall increase in the number of transactions during the second quarter of 2012.

The results for the second quarter of 2012 published recently by the GTMC, the British association of business travel agencies, show an overall increase in the number of transactions (+5%) compared with the same period in 2011. The rail sector showed the strongest growth (+14%), ahead of car rental (+6%). Growth was more muted in air travel, where it was only 2% compared with 2011, and especially in hotels, which remained stable. This phenomenon is explained by the GTMC in particular by the effect of the Olympic Games, with the competition prompting professionals to desert London this summer. "Even if they are not spectacular, these figures show that, while remaining cautious, things are better than we could have expected," sums up Anne Godfrey, who is also preparing to leave the GTMC.
