The 2013 edition of the HealthMap, which International SOS has been offering for the last four years, is now available. On a scale of five categories - "Low", "Medium", "Medium and High", "High" and "Extreme" - it references the global health risks likely to affect business travellers and expatriates during their stays abroad. This is all the more important given that 23% of business travellers visited destinations with "Medium and High", "High" and "Extreme" risks during 2012, according to data from "TravelTracker", the tool used to help companies locate and communicate with their travelling professionals. The BRICS, which would account for 10% of travel, show a level of risk considered "Medium to High". The report points to "a disparity in medical risk and quality of care between major cities and other regions of the country" and adds: "The disparity between medical facilities in major cities and the rest of the country should be noted and taken into account".
