It is not yet known when business travellers will be able to experiment with NFC (Near Field Communications) contactless technology within the Iberia network. But according to the press release issued by the Spanish airline at the beginning of March, the time is approaching. And the agreement signed with Samsung should help to make Iberia a "pioneer" in new technologies applied to air travel. And even the first company in Europe to adopt what has been heralded for many months as the standard of tomorrow.
NFC has the significant advantage of working faster than a barcode reader, at a distance of around 15 cm, even when the smartphone is switched off. It should speed up the various stages of the journey, particularly baggage check-in and boarding. Iberia is thus confirming the strategic importance it has attached for several months to new technologies, which are being tested in Terminal 4 at Madrid-Barajas airport.
