Are Paris parking meters on the way to becoming an endangered species? Nothing is certain. Nevertheless, Paris City Council is giving its parking meter system a facelift, and business travellers will soon be able to use it on their smartphones. The free application, called PMobile, is available on both Android and iOS. It enables users to remotely control their virtual parking ticket, increasing or reducing the time paid, down to the nearest quarter of an hour. Paris Surveillance Officers (ASP) will be able to use their terminals to consult the database where virtual parking tickets are centralised. The pilot phase of the PMobile project will take place from next autumn in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th arrondissements. It is due to be rolled out across the whole of Paris by 2015.
