Expected for many months, Apple's big event did not really unveil any major surprises, as the brand's main innovations had already been leaked over the preceding weeks. As expected, the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature contactless NFC (near field communications) technology, enabling you to pay for purchases using your smartphone. Billed as "the biggest advances in iPhone history", the two models differ from their predecessors mainly in the size of their screens - 4.7 and 5.5 inches respectively - and the integration of an A8 chip featuring a new, more powerful image signal processor. The new devices will also benefit from iOS 8: the new operating system, scheduled for release on 17 September, should offer enhanced security for business customers, as well as new productivity and data protection features.
In addition to the two new smartphone models, Apple took advantage of the event to unveil the Apple Watch, marking the Apple brand's arrival in the world of connected objects. The connected watch, whose design is supposed to "honour the rich tradition of precision watchmaking", can send and receive messages, answer iPhone calls and, more anecdotally, send its pulse to a contact... The availability of a WatchKit for developers should also pave the way for new functions designed specifically for the latest addition to the Apple family.
