Turkey is definitely in the spotlight for hotel groups. Following the announcement a few days ago that Marriott International would be opening around ten new hotels, most of them in Istanbul, and the recent opening, again in the Turkish metropolis, of.., a Mandarin Oriental, it's Accor's turn to unveil its plans bringing the total number of hotels in the country to 57.
In Turkey's main business city, the French group has opened an ibis Styles on the European bankin the heart of the Merter district. The 211-room hotel's decor is inspired by its surroundings, as this district is one of Istanbul's textile and ready-to-wear centres. It also features a swimming pool, fitness room, Turkish bath, hammam and sauna.
However, Accor's recent developments in Turkey do not only concern Istanbul, but also regional cities. Mövenpick is doing double duty by setting up in Bursa, in Anatolia, and in Trabzon, on the Black Sea.
The Mövenpick Hotel & Thermal Spa Bursa.
With its port overlooking the Sea of Marmara and its textile and automotive factories, Renault in particular, it is a major centre of the Turkish economy, Bursa saw the opening of the Mövenpick Hotel & Thermal Spa in the city centre.. As its name suggests, this top-of-the-range establishment is partly dedicated to fitness, with a spa featuring a thermal pool, sauna and hammam, and activities such as aquarobics and pilates. But the new Mövenpick, which has 136 rooms including 12 premium rooms, 6 suites and 2 presidential suites, is also geared towards business travellers with its conference centre featuring seven meeting rooms and a ballroom that can accommodate 300 people.
The Swiss brand acquired by Accor in 2018 is also pursuing its development on the shores of the Black Sea, in Trabzon. Located five minutes from the city's airport, this beachfront hotel offers 149 rooms, 29 suites and 1 presidential suite, as well as three meeting rooms with a capacity of 20, 50 and 150 people. As always with the Mövenpick brand's emphasis on culinary offerings, the hotel has a main restaurant offering regional specialities and another restaurant where guests can enjoy local specialities as well as exclusive Mövenpick brand meals. In addition, the Cedrus à la carte restaurant can accommodate up to 160 people for social gatherings and small meetings.
Still in TrabzonAccor has also added a Mercure hotel to complement the recently opened Mövenpick and the existing Novotel. Located in Yomra Kasüstü, on Trabzon's main Black Sea road, and 4 km from the airport, the Mercure has 213 roomsincluding 32 suites with sea views. There is also a restaurant, M'Cuisine, with an adjoining terrace, an outdoor swimming pool on the 9th floor overlooking the surrounding panorama, a meeting room and a ballroom.
