For a long time, services to Latin America were the preserve of Spanish carrier Iberia and TAP Air Portugal. But for several years now, the Air France-KLM duo has been working to densify its flight schedule, and today offers one of the most comprehensive networks to the sub-continent. Air France-KLM has become the leader on the Europe/Caribbean and Latin America routes, serving 27 destinations in the region with over 200 weekly flights from Paris CDG or Amsterdam Schiphol. In the Caribbean, the network covers Havana, Port-au-Prince and Santo Domingo as well as Fort-de-France and Pointe-à-Pitre, while on the Latin American continent, the duo serves Bogota, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Lima, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Mexicothe first destination in Latin America to be served by A380.
San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, will soon be added to all these destinations. From 2 November 2016 and throughout the 2016-17 winter season, Air France will be offering two weekly flights to Costa Rica from Paris-CDG. These flights will be operated by Boeing 777-300s with a capacity of 468 seats, including 14 in the Business cabin. The airline hopes to attract both tourist and business traffic, as Costa Rica is one of the most prosperous countries in Central America.
