"Welcome to the airport. Don't go through baggage" could be the message sent by American Airlines since 6 August, with the launch of a baggage delivery service. A third way that resolves the dilemma between reduced cabin baggage and the extra wait in the dedicated area of the airport. In practical terms, business travellers on the American Airlines network can now - for a fee - have their baggage delivered to their home or workplace, by subscribing to the service up to two hours before departure. There is a flat rate for destinations up to 60 kilometres from the airport (40 miles): from around 24 euros (30 dollars) for a single suitcase, to 40 euros for three suitcases or more. For more distant destinations, business travellers will have to pay one dollar per additional mile beyond the 64 km radius. Delivery times have also been revised upwards: between four and six hours, compared with one to four hours for closer delivery. The service, provided in partnership by American Airlines with BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery, is available at more than 200 airports in the United States, as well as a number of other destinations - including Dublin - and several Canadian airports.
