Some 4 billion dollarsThis is the amount invested by Delta Air Lines in cooperation with the New York and New Jersey Port Authority for the transformation of Terminal C at LaGuardia, the heart of the American carrier's business.
This sum is in fact part of an almost complete reconstruction plan for this airport, long considered to be one of the worst in the United States. Eight billion will have been invested over the last decade in all New York airports. Last January, the NY & NJ Port Authority had already inaugurated at LaGuardia the new Terminal B. It hosts the following companies Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United and JetBlue.
"Transforming LaGuardia Airport into a world-class destination is an integral part of our bold vision for a new era in New York," said State Governor Kathy Hochul.
"The opening of Delta's Terminal C will help to offer passengers a state-of-the-art experience, making connections easier," she added.
A new standard of comfort in Terminal C
Covering an area of 130,000 m2, Terminal C is 85 % larger than the two terminals it replaces. While the old terminals were characterised by their cavernous appearance, Terminal C, with its huge windows, is bathed in natural light during the day.
Designed for optimum efficiency and speed, the terminal improves passengers' journey to their boarding gates. Delta Air Lines has introduced an automated hands-free baggage drop-off facility. As well as digital identity verification devices to speed up journeys..
Delta also offers a dedicated check-in hall on the access road alongside the terminal. This allows passengers travelling by car to check in and proceed directly to the security check lanes.
The departure lounge includes 36 traditional check-in counters, 49 self-service kiosks and 16 baggage drop-off counters. A larger security zone includes 11 checkpoints. It will be possible to add five more in the future. Here too, the latest technology is used to equip this security control area. Signage also tells passengers how long they will have to wait to be screened. On the arrivals side, the terminal has five baggage carousels.
The terminal has 37 boarding gates. It also features the largest Delta Sky Club lounge in the United States, with 3,400m2 of floor space and a capacity of 600 passengers. Not to mention 80% of additional floor space for shops and restaurants...
