International traffic: the Dubai hub remains in the lead

On the strength of 89 149 387 passengers (+1%), the airport of Dubai maintained its global leadership in international traffic for the fifth year running in 2018. On average, the Dubai hub welcomed 7.4 million passengers per month, with peaks of over 8 million recorded during the summer months of July and August.

London was the most popular destination last year (3,817,889 travellers), ahead of Mumbai (2,540,750) and Kuwait (2,194,576). But it was the Indian market that proved the most successful, generating no fewer than 12,279,485 trips, almost double the number for Saudi Arabia (6,471,142) and the United Kingdom (6,284,771), in second and third place respectively. In terms of growth, the Chinese (+6% to 3,512,075) and Russian (14.5% to 1,533,654) markets stood out, even catching up with the United States (3,205,524).
