Finnair, British Airways and JAL join forces to fly to Japan

Finnair, British Airways and Japan Airlines, all three members of the oneworld alliance, launched a joint venture between Europe and Japan in April. This project, initiated in 2012 by British Airways and Japan Airlines, was approved last October by the Japanese regulatory authorities, allowing Finnair to be included in the joint venture. "The arrival of Finnair in this project with British Airways and Japan Airlines will open up a whole new world of possibilities for customers travelling between Japan and Europe," said Keith Williams, Executive Chairman of British Airways.

The three airlines Finnair, British Airways and Japan Airlines will cooperate on planning and pricing between Japan and Europe, offering customers more flexible options and an attractive range of fares. Passengers will now be able to benefit from better connections between the flights of the three carriers and greater connectivity on all three airlines in the event of disruption. In addition, a common online booking and check-in system on all three airlines has been introduced.

"Together, we will be the largest carrier on the Europe-Japan route, offering our passengers an extremely competitive offer in this key market", says Pekka Vauramo, CEO of Finnair. Finnair currently serves Tokyo daily from Helsinki and Osaka and Nagoya daily in summer, linking Japan to more than 50 destinations from the Helsinki hub. For its part, Japan Airlines operates daily flights from Tokyo to Helsinki, Frankfurt, Paris and London, while British Airways operates daily flights from London to Tokyo Narita and Tokyo Haneda airports.
