Finnair: business comfort up for auction

Finnair is turning to the auction system, offering travellers on the Helsinki-Bangkok route the chance to bid on a possible upgrade, with the winner earning his or her ticket to business class.

The auction system is being tested by Finnair on two flights a day (AY89 and AY90) for departures from 31 March 2015. It could be extended, depending on the results of this test phase. In concrete terms, certain customers selected by the airline are informed of this possibility one month before their flight, and can then, if they wish, propose the fare they would be prepared to pay for this upgrade. They will then receive the final results between five and seven days before their departure. This system has already been introduced by other airlines, such as El Al and Air New Zealand.
