Supporters of a Heathrow airport extension are smiling: the figures speak for themselves. The London hub has just published record results for July, with 7.29 million passengers (+4,7% compared with July 2014). The highest daily peaks were also reached last month, particularly on 31 Julywith a record attendance of 254.375 passengers. "As the UK's main airport, Heathrow is the beating heart of the British economy," says John Holland-Kaye, CEO of the airport. "Our best exports, such as Scottish salmon and pharmaceuticals, pass through Heathrow on their way to markets around the world. With expansion, we can add connections to new markets, opening up new trade routes that will ensure British prosperity for decades to come. These findings come just over a month after the government-appointed Commission recommended the construction of a new runway at Heathrow airport, to the detriment of a Gatwick extension.
