Hotel W Madrid, due to open in two years' time, will have a total of 120 rooms and 21 suites. It will be housed in a 19th-century building on the Plaza de Canalejas. The establishment will join its Catalan counterpart inaugurated a few years earlier: the W Barcelona, whose sail-shaped silhouette has become emblematic of the Barcelona landscape. "When the W Madrid opens in 2018, Spain will be the only country in Europe with two W hotels," says Michael Wale, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, EMEA (Europe, Africa, Middle East).
