The annual Skytrax ranking of the world's best airports is the equivalent of the Cannes Film Festival. Awards are presented to the world's best airports. Including a host of prizes designed to please everyone!
Some of the highlights of the awards presented in 2024 include the prize for the airport with the greatest improvement (Sapporo New Chitose), the prize for the best baggage delivery (Osaka Kansai) and the prize for the airport with the most beautiful works of art (Houston). As for Shenzhen airport, it must have been delighted to have the best airport hotel... in China!
Notwithstanding these borderline fanciful attributions, the most important prizes remain those for the best airports in the world or in their continent of origin. Asia and Europe dominate the top 10 (four nominations each). The Persian Gulf ranked second with two airports.
In 2024, the ranking Skytrax airport once again Doha Hamad as the best airport in the world, ahead of Singapore-Changi. The two airports have regularly alternated their number 1 and number 2 positions in recent years. Seoul-Incheon, Tokyo-Haneda and Tokyo-Narita follow.
Paris CDG wins several awards
In sixth place is Paris-CDG. Which makes it the best airport in Europe. And the best in the category of airports with between 60 and 70 million passengers. CDG overtakes Dubai, in 7th place, as well as Munich, Zurich and Istanbul. The Paris hub won another prize: that for the best low-cost terminal, in this case Terminal 3.
Five other European airports made it into the top 20 (Rome-Fiumicino, Vienna, Helsinki, Madrid and Copenhagen). It should also be noted that Paris-Orly moves up 9 places and is now considered the 30th best airport in the world.
You then have to drop down to 87th place to find another French airport, Lyon. But in the ranking of the world's best low-cost terminals, the MP2 terminal in Marseille comes 8th.
