Leisure: Transavia asserts its strategy within the Air France group

Designed to consolidate Air France's leisure business, Transavia is preparing to strengthen the Group's presence at Orly.

"Our fleet will increase from eight aircraft based in France to 22, even though we have experienced difficulties with the political problems in key destinations such as Tunisia and Egypt. Our results in France are very good, with an increase in sales of 9%s over the last twelve months and a load factor of more than 84%". says Hélène Abraham, Commercial Vice-President of the low-cost airline.

Transavia's strategy within Air France is to win back market share for the French flag in so-called leisure destinations. “Foreign-flagged vessels account for an average market share of 70 on the routes we serve”says Hélène Abraham. During the summer, Transavia serves 31 destinations from Paris Orly and 11 from Nantes. For the winter season, the airline is reducing its fleet by two aircraft, serving 13 destinations from Orly and five from Nantes. "We are concentrating our offer around the Mediterranean, with 50% of our capacity on the B2B market, but we are increasingly targeting individual customers".says the vice-president.

For these passengers, Transavia offers other services on its flights, such as seat reservations and additional baggage allowance. “On certain routes, we already have a significant number of business travellers. This is the case with Porto, where we carry between 5% and 10 business passengers on our two to three daily flights.”explains Hélène Abraham. Porto remains the flagship destination for the airline, which also offers flights to Nantes and a domestic route to Funchal. Transavia sold almost 255,000 seats in Portugal last year, up 14%.
