Formalities
French nationals must apply for a visa and have a valid passport, valid for six months after the date of return, with at least three blank pages, two of them facing each other. Visas can be obtained from the Djibouti diplomatic representation or by using the e-visa procedure:https://www.evisa.gouv.dj
To obtain a business visa, applicants must have a signed and stamped company engagement letter and a letter of invitation from a correspondent in Djibouti.

French residents are required to obtain a foreigner's residence permit, which entitles them to a renewable one-year visa. If they are in employment, they must hold a work permit for foreigners.
Compulsory vaccinations
It is advisable to update the vaccinations included in the vaccination calendar and add the hepatitis A vaccine 15 days before departure, as well as the hepatitis B vaccine for long or repeated stays. Malaria is transmitted all year round by mosquito bites. Preventive treatment is required: chemoprophylaxis with Atovaquone/Proguanil, or Doxycycline, or Mefloquine.
Currency and exchange rates
The national currency is the Djibouti franc (DJF). One euro is equivalent to 197.137 DJF. Cash is the rule outside the capital. In the capital, currency can be exchanged at banks or bureaux de change (Place du 27 juin, in particular). Some bank branches have cash dispensers. Major hotels and car hire companies generally accept payment by credit card. Banks are closed on Fridays.
Time difference
Djibouti is at GMT+3: in summer, there is a 1-hour time difference with France and a 2-hour time difference in winter.
Language French and Arabic are the official languages. Within the country, Afar and Somali dialects are widely spoken.
How to get there
Air France operates three flights a week. The airline Turkish Airlines offers very competitive prices for its flights with a stopover in Istanbul. Djibouti can also be reached via Dubai using Emiratesor via Addis Ababa using the Ethiopian Airlines or via Doha with Qatar Airways.
Djibouti has one international airport, Ambouli Airport (JIB), around 5km south of Djibouti City. All the airlines serving the country have an office or representative in the capital.
