Faced with the economic turbulence facing many airlines - as evidenced by Kingfisher's setbacks in India and the outright closure of Malev - the adage "there is strength in numbers" is gaining ground among market players. The agreement signed on 14 May between Singapore Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines is a further step in this direction, following the memorandum of understanding signed last January. This joint venture between the two carriers will cover routes between Scandinavia and Singapore, where the agreement was signed by Chairmen Goh Choon Phong and Rickard Gustafson. The two airlines, which are also members of the Star Alliance network, are now preparing to coordinate their flight schedules, sales activities and, more generally, their air network.
