A "solid" quarter for Eurostar

Eurostar continues to enjoy good momentum in 2012, reporting stable traffic in the 3rd quarter thanks in particular to the effect of the Olympic Games, moderated by the decline in business customers.

As expected, the organisation of the London Olympic Games helped to increase traffic on the Eurostar network, although the railway company was perhaps expecting better than the 4% increase recorded during the Olympic fortnight. "Many business travellers decided to avoid London during the Games", explains Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar's Managing Director, who adds: "the outlook for the end of the year is encouraging: we have seen a good recovery since September". In total, 2.6 million passengers travelled with the railway company during the 3th quarter. Between January and September 2012, traffic was up slightly - 7.4 million passengers, compared with 7.3 million last year - but sales were down very slightly (11TP3Q).
