Michael O'Leary, the boss of Ryanair, is no stranger to earth-shattering announcements. The preacher of profitability at all costs had already surprised by announcing that he was studying paying toilets. In 2010, he dropped another bombshell when he revealed that he was considering standing passengersan extravagant wish that has become reality! During the 2018 edition of the Aircraft Interiors Expo, held every year in Hamburg, Italian seating manufacturer Aviointeriors presented the SkyRider 2.0, a "vertical" seat. In fact, it's a chair offering a standing position with minimal seating, a sort of improved horse saddle.

Each seat is separated by bars, a bit like in the underground. This is a second version of a seat that was not approved when it was first presented eight years ago. According to a company spokesperson, the seat's design makes it possible to adequate" comfort. "It weighs half as much as a normal economy seat, while its design increases the number of passengers carried by 20 %."The spokesman told CNN. And yet, while the prospect of lucrative revenues may appeal to their financial managers, no airline has yet dared to take the plunge. Even Ryanair, which says it has given up on the idea.
