Ahead of the presentation of the draft reform of air traffic control, which will be presented to the European Parliament's Transport Committee on 14 October, the unions are getting organised. Two French unions have confirmed their strike notice for Thursday 10 October, prompting the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) to take early action. The DGAC is therefore planning to reduce overall traffic on the French network by 10%. Marseille and Lyon airports will be the hardest hit, with a reduction of 30% forecast for the whole day. In Paris, restrictions are expected to reach 25% at Orly on Thursday morning, and 8% at Roissy-CDG, according to a DGAC spokesman contacted on Wednesday.
"For the UNSA-ICNA, this is no longer a time for trust," warns the press release published on 6 October by the Air Traffic Control Engineers union. "We cannot reduce costs indefinitely without affecting safety, regularity and the environment. (...) The UNSA-ICNA is maintaining its strike notice for 10 October 2013. The air traffic controllers of Europe's leading service provider will have to send a strong message to the airlines".
