In your opinion, what are the conditions for success in Seoul?
Frédéric Boulin - First and foremost, there's the location. Our hotel is located directly opposite the COEX conference centre, one of Seoul's largest shopping centres and just a few metres from the City Air Terminal where passengers can check in. Above all, our hotel embodies a timeless elegance that perfectly matches Seoul's self-image. We opened in 2005 and we remain a benchmark for travellers. We receive many business people working in the fashion and design sectors, including a large number of French nationals. Our hotel perfectly matches this need for discretion and hushed luxury. Luxury is discreet and design contributes to it.
How does the Park Hyatt's design spirit fit in with that which is dominant in the Korean capital today?
F. B. - With its minimalist ambience, our lounge on the 24th floor fades into the background at dusk so that our guests can enjoy the view over the city. Meanwhile, our art collection - 300 works by around a hundred artists - is scattered without ostentation throughout the hotel, particularly in the Timber House, our basement bar. It's a very contemporary bar, but its walls are made of tiles and wood panels salvaged from houses that no longer exist. It's this fusion of local history and contemporary spirit that sets us apart. Another example is our bathrooms, with Japanese lava stone showers that open out onto the horizon. Relaxing as if in a spa and at the same time having a bird's eye view of Seoul is an exceptional moment!
