Lürich airport remains Switzerland's leading air hub of the country with almost 29 million passengers by 2023. The airport is expecting traffic of 30 million passengers This year, several airlines are increasing their routes with the introduction of summer schedules.
All in all, 62 airlines to link Swiss airport to 200 destinations by summer 2024. Let nine more destinations than during the 2023 summer season. The largest number of new routes remains the preserve of Swiss and its leisure flight subsidiary Edelweiss.
As previously announced, the most important new feature of Swiss is due to arrive in Seoul on 7 May. The Swiss national carrier will offer three weekly frequencies. Swiss is also strengthening its services to North America. It has been connecting Zurich to Washington since 28 March and will be landing in Toronto from 10 May.. Toronto is served five times a week in summer, while Washington has one daily flight in summer and five weekly flights in winter.
Delta Air Lines also resumes service to Atlanta. Edelweisswill now provide daily services to Vancouver during the summer months. The leisure carrier will also be offering more frequencies to Calgary, Tampa and Denver.
In Asia, in addition to the Zurich-Seoul route, Swiss strengthens its services to China. The company returns to a daily flight to Shanghai and Hong Kong. On its side, Cathay Pacific increases weekly flights to four with the summer timetable. Edelweiss also offers more frequencies to Muscat (Oman) and Phuket (Thailand). The company is also extending its summer its seasonal service to Bogota and Cartagena in Colombia.
Other important news: Tunisair's return to Zurich after a three-year hiatus. The Tunisian carrier will connect Tunis twice a week and Djerba once a week.
The Mediterranean remains very popular. Edelweiss increases its frequencies towards the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, mainland Spain and Greece. Swiss is not to be outdone, with more flights to Alicante and Madrid during the summer timetable. Since the end of March, easyJet also serves Alicante with two weekly flights. WhileAegean moves to 11 flights a week to Athens. And that the Italian company ITA Airways increases the frequency of the Rome-Zurich route to two daily flights.
Services to Northern Europe are also being strengthened. Scandinavian Airlines serves Oslo up to three times a day in summer. Edelweiss is offering a weekly scheduled flight for the first time to the Norwegian islands of Lofotento Evenes. It is also increasing its frequencies to Tromsø and Keflavikand is strengthening its position in the United Kingdom on Edinburgh and Newquay (Cornwall). Swiss launches a daily flight to London-Gatwick.
Towards Central and Eastern Europe, Zurich-Berlin benefits from more Easyjet flights (8 flights/week) whileEurowings launches eleven flights a week between the two towns. Swiss starts three flights a week on Košice in Slovakia. Just like Cluj-Napocain Romania, will also be served for the first time by Swiss with three flights a week.
