The Lufthansa Group integrates Covid-19 test certificates into its application

The Lufthansa group is testing the use of e-mail confirmation of negative covid-19 tests on certain flights. The results of these tests will eventually form part of the group's digital offering.

The Lufthansa Group is now offering to send its customers their Covid-19 test certificates via its application. All the documents required for entry will be sent at the same time to a help centre. This centralises and manages all the information currently required for travel in terms of health.

The new service will start Friday 26 February on three overhead lines of the German company: between Frankfurt-Istanbul, and between Newark and Frankfurt and Munich. In March, Swiss will also offer the possibility of sending a digital certificate for flights between Newark and Zurich.. This service is available after filling in a contact form, from 72 hours before departure.

A service extended to all flights in the future

Passengers travelling on these flights will be informed in advance and will receive a link to a portal where contact details and relevant certificates can be stored. A service centre will check all the documents supplied. Once validated, the customer receives confirmation by e-mail. It indicates whether all the certificates meet the entry conditions or whether more information is required. Digital versions of documents do not replace the need to take original certificates with you on your journey.

Lufthansa and Swiss customers benefit from even greater planning security. Check-in and boarding are also quicker and easier. With this service, the Group is taking a further step towards integrating test results into the digitalisation of travel.

If the trial proves conclusive, the group plans to extend the sending of digital certificates to all its flights. In future, the digital application will include digital health passports.

Lufthansa also points out that it is now compulsory to wear a protective medical mask on Lufthansa Group flights to and from Germany. Passengers must therefore have either a surgical mask, an FFP2 mask or a mask meeting the KN95/N95 standard on board and in flight.

Exemption from the obligation to wear a mask during the flight is only possible with a medical certificate integrated into a Lufthansa Group form.
