Amsterdam: the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky continues its renovation

Amsterdam's Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky has entered the final phase of a vast renovation programme that will see the hotel become a full part of the Anantara luxury brand. One of the city's most emblematic hotels, this historic establishment was the flagship of the Golden Tulip group from the mid-1970s onwards, before becoming part of the NH Hotels offer, and now Minor International, now owner of NH Hotels. The success story of the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky dates back to the middle of the 19th century, when a Polish tailor - Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky - buys a café in the heart of Amsterdamclose to the royal palace. Later, in 1883, he took over the adjoining buildings, adding a restaurant, a billiard room and a winter garden, until he opened a 125-room hotel. It was already a chic establishment at the time, with King William III of the Netherlands celebrating the 40th anniversary of his reign and the wedding of his daughter. At the turn of the 20th centurye It was the only one in Amsterdam to offer electricity, hot water and telephones to all its customers.

The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky has since been enlarged and, in the 1980s, added conference and event space. a prominent place in Amsterdam's hotel offer. And this will be further enhanced by the renovation programme to give it a luxurious look, due for completion in spring 2023. Several rooms of varying sizes - renovated in 2016 - are also available to host all types of events. 

But the hotel's move upmarket also involves incorporating the strengths of the Asian luxury brand, notably a spa Anantara and top-of-the-range fitness facilities. In common with the hotel's other establishments, guests are offered a programme of experiences, ranging from dinner in the Royal Suite, to a culinary tour of Amsterdam's oldest bars and distilleries, to a romantic dinner on the canals hosted by the hotel's own restaurant, The White Room.

This gourmet restaurant, run by a former three-star chefJacob Jan Boerma, is at the heart of the restaurant offer, with the Grand Café Krasnapolsky brasserie and the Champagne Room, both with a direct view of Dam Square.
