Rotterdam was not an unknown destination for Hilton, far from it. Last May, its flagship brand celebrated sixty years of existence at the Hilton Rotterdam, the brand's fourth establishment in Europe after those in Madrid, Istanbul and Amsterdam, inaugurated the year before, in 1962. A place of the city's leading international hotel chain In 2016, the building designed by architect Huig Maaskant was listed as a national monument. More recently, last year, it was also in this great port city that its contemporary brand Motto by Hilton made its continental debut.
The story will soon continue with two new hotels. The American group has agreed to affix two of its brands to establishments recently acquired by investor Annexum: Mainport by Inntel Hotels and Inntel Hotels Rotterdam Centre. The hotel, which was opened in 1989 by the Dutch group Inntel - best known for its astonishing hotel in Amsterdam with a facade of traditional houses built one on top of the other - is due to become a DoubleTree by Hilton in 2024, after completing a renovation phase.
Located on the banks of the Meuse, at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge, the DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre will offer business travellers 265 rooms with views of the port and waterfront, complete with spa and swimming pool, bar and restaurant. Above all, in this important business destination, the hotel will offer them a vast meeting space to the 15e and 16e floors with natural daylight and uninterrupted views over the entire city.
Organisers will be able to play on synergies with the Mainport Hotel, adjacent to the DoubleTree, which now has meeting rooms and a function room for up to 500 people, giving the two hotels a combined capacity of 800. Individual travellers will also benefit from these synergies, as they will be able to access the services of either establishment, including private parking with charging points for electric vehicles, as well as the restaurant and cocktail bar with a view of the Mainport.
Opened in 2013, this five-star hotel was previously a member of the Design Hotels chain and, following renovation, will become part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. Located like its neighbour close to the Leuvehaven underground station, this hotel with contemporary decor offers 215 bright, floor-to-ceiling glass rooms, plus a spa and Life Fitness gym.
While the hotels will be undergoing refurbishment, they will remain operational and will be marketed as Hilton-affiliated hotels, further strengthening the group's presence in the country. " Hilton is proud of its heritage in the Netherlands, which stretches back over 60 years, and we are actively developing our portfolio to meet customer demand, with 18 hotels currently in operation or under development" said Patrick Fitzgibbon, the American group's senior vice-president for development in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
